DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION – TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE DURING CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
The Department for Education has announced a major package of support for vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people across England, during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This includes providing laptops, tablets and 4G wireless routers. The delivery of the equipment will be phased, with priority initially being given to:
- Care leavers and children with a social worker; followed by
- Children in year 10, to help them prepare for their GCSEs next year.
HOW WILL I BE INCLUDED?
Local authorities, trusts and other relevant organisations received correspondence from the Department for Education on Friday 24 April, which provided information about the online ordering process for devices for eligible pupils, children and young people.
Parents, children and schools will not be able to order the devices themselves.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Computacenter, on behalf of the Department for Education, are contacting local authorities and academy trusts with information on how to order devices for eligible children, families and young people. The multi-step process will be explained in these communications.
WHEN WILL THE DEVICES BE DELIVERED?
Due to the scale of the project, equipment deliveries will be phased.
